DMRC to implement Kochi Metro Rail project
09 January 2013 : Kochi

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will implement the Rs.5,200-crore Kochi Metro Rail project, with Dr. E. Sreedharan as its Principal Advisor.

A decision in this regard was taken at a high-level meeting between the Centre and the State government, and attended by the Managing Directors of DMRC and Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL), and Dr. Sreedharan, at Kochi on Tuesday.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Union Minister for Urban Development, Mr. Kamal Nath said that DMRC would be fully engaged in the implementation of the Kochi Metro Rail project. This is the first time the administration has allowed DMRC to go out of Delhi for the full implementation of a project.

Expected to be completed in three years, the project covers 25.612 km in the Aluva-MG Road-Petta stretch in Kochi.

The engagement of DMRC will be on cost-plus basis, i.e., cost plus mutually agreed consultancy fee. DMRC will assist KMRL in building up its organisational capacity for executing the metro work and effectively undertaking its operation and maintenance.

A detailed agreement will be signed between DMRC and KMRL soon in this regard.
