Thiruvananthapuram becomes India's first Responsible Shopping Corridor

Kerala's capital has become the country's first Responsible Shopping Corridor (RSC) with an experimental campaign launched as part of the South Indian Bank Grand Kerala Shopping Festival.

A concept that is practiced in many countries worldwide, responsible shopping is something that India too must embrace, said Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Hon'ble Minister of State for Human Resource Development after officially opening the corridor that encompasses shops and businesses along an expansive stretch between Kesavadasapuram and East Fort in the city.

RSC is a unique experiment to promote eco‐conscious shopping launched in keeping with the state government's policy of supporting Responsible Tourism. Among the goals of the project are to encourage shoppers to spend their money on eco-friendly, organic and fair‐price products not manufactured in sweatshops; encourage recycling; and work to improve civic and health amenities at stores and shopping centres.
